Athena
Goddess of intelligence, strategy, and strength guided by reason, Athena does not embody the blind impulse of war, but the ability to observe, wait, and recognise the right moment to act.
In the Odyssey, she is Odysseus’ great ally: she protects and advises him, accompanying him through the delicate process of returning to Ithaca. Her figure thus brings together wisdom and action, discipline and protection.
In our ring, Athena’s helmeted profile becomes a small cameo hand-carved in Tahitian grey mother-of-pearl: an ancient image entrusted to the material and designed to be carried with you.
The Mother-of-Pearl
The cameo is made from genuine Tahitian grey mother-of-pearl, selected for its natural iridescence and the way its appearance continually changes with the light.
Its surface can shift from silvery grey to green, pink, or almost black reflections. Every fragment of mother-of-pearl has its own distinctive nuances, which means that no two cameos are ever exactly alike.
These variations are not imperfections, but a natural characteristic of the material that makes every ring unique.
Cameo dimensions: approximately 14 × 12 mm.
The Cameo
In a cameo, unlike an intaglio, the image emerges in relief from the surface of the material.
Athena’s profile is carved by hand, following the natural characteristics and variations of the mother-of-pearl. Her face, helmet, and composed expression condense the identity of the goddess into a space measuring only a few millimetres.
Our cameo is not a replica of any single ancient gem. Instead, it reinterprets the visual language through which Athena has been represented for centuries: from monumental sculpture and engraved gems to intimate objects designed to be worn on the body.
Colour, light, and carving interact with one another, giving each portrait a subtly different presence.
The Ring
The Athena cameo is set into a signet ring handcrafted in Italy and available in:
Solid 925 sterling silver
or
Bronze
The open, adjustable band can be gently adapted to the finger, making this design particularly suitable when the exact ring size is unknown.
Each piece is individually prepared after the order is placed.
Production time: approximately one week.
An Image to Carry With You
Athena moves through mythology as a figure of clear-minded strength: a presence capable of uniting intelligence, self-control, and determination.
Her profile can become a personal emblem of clarity, strategy, independence, and protection, without being bound to a single meaning.
Like ancient engraved gems, this cameo continues one of the most profound functions of glyptic art: to concentrate an image, a story, or an identity within a small piece of precious material designed to be worn.
An ancient image that, once chosen and worn, can acquire a new and deeply personal meaning.

From the Archive
In the glyptic tradition, Athena’s identity could be contained within a space measuring only a few millimetres: her profile, helmet, and a small number of attributes were enough to make the goddess instantly recognisable.
From Homer to the engraved gems of antiquity, from nineteenth-century gem engravers to contemporary jewellery, her image has continued to evolve without losing its power.
Our cameo belongs to this long tradition: entrusting an image to the material and allowing it to continue travelling through time.
