Daughter of Demeter and queen of the Underworld, Persephone belongs to two worlds. Her myth tells of a continuous movement between light and darkness, absence and return, descent and rebirth.

It is precisely this dual nature that makes her one of the most fascinating figures in classical mythology.

In our ring, Persephone’s profile becomes a small cameo hand-carved in grey Tahitian mother-of-pearl: an ancient image entrusted to the material and created to be carried with you.

The Stone

The cameo is carved from genuine grey Tahitian mother-of-pearl, chosen for its natural iridescence and the way it continuously changes with the light.

Its tones can shift from silvery grey to deeper shades, with green or pink reflections. Every piece of mother-of-pearl has its own nuances and, for this reason, no two cameos are ever perfectly identical.

These variations are not imperfections, but a natural characteristic of the material, making every ring unique.

The Cameo

In a cameo, unlike an intaglio, the image emerges in relief from the surface of the material.

Persephone’s profile is carved by hand, following the natural characteristics and variations of the mother-of-pearl. Colour, light and engraving therefore interact with one another, giving each portrait a slightly different presence.

The image belongs to the long tradition of glyptic art, the art of engraving figures, symbols and portraits on gems and precious materials, transforming them into small objects intended to be worn on the body.
